Crazy Core: a Fitness Post

Claire, our exercise guru at Christus Schumpert Wellness Center and Fit Nation, has always loved to exercise.  She said she would be doing Tae Bo videos in her den in middle school or would just get her walkman and run through the neighborhood.  She graduated from college with a degree in Psychology, but never used it.  Except she says she uses it on us, her clients, ha ha!!!  She has been teaching classes for 10 years and has been personal training for 8 years.  She and her partner, Mark, have two gorgeous girls, Carmen, 3 and Teal, 10 months.  She just opened a studio on East 70th Street in Shreveport.  She invited me to her studio to show me some great moves to really work your core.

Claire recommends doing 15 single reps and 10 pulses of each exercise.

Q & A with Claire

How did you lose your baby weight?

I exercised right up until my due date.  I breastfed Carmen for 7 months and Teal for 5 months.

What do you eat to stay trim?

First, I drink a gallon of water daily. I also eat lots of protein and try to eat the majority of my carbs earlier in the day.

What is your favorite playlist?

Always Flo-rida!  I go to cardiomixes.com to get my class playlists.

What do you do for exercise on vacation?

I enjoy running.  I usually bring a tube, mat, and 10 pound hand weights, too.

Tell us about your “Skinny Jeans” class at Fit Nation.

It’s 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of lower body and 20 minutes of core.

What about your personal training?

I tailor the training to a person’s needs.  Usually, 80% of my clients want a full-body workout.  I charge $30/30 minutes and $45/45 minutes.  If you pay in bulk, I charge less.

We had a great core workout, and I enjoyed getting to know Claire better!

Toodle-oo,

Melanie
