Lavish Libation Series: Boozy and the Beast

Come be my guest!  We are watching Beauty and the Beast and whipping up a warm libation to drink while we watch.

This is a classic tale full of great music, dancing and love, starring Emma Watson, Luke Evans, Emma Thompson and Ewan McGregor.

Here’s what you need to make this concoction:IMG_4257.JPGhibiscus tea and flaked coconutIMG_4260.JPG

lemon juice, coconut water, light rum and simple syrup

Steep tea and coconut in a container of boiling water for 10 minutes. Strain 3 ounces into a teacup and set aside.IMG_4262.JPGIMG_4264.JPGIMG_4267.JPGPour 1 1/2 ounces of light rum, 1 ounce of coconut water, 3/4 ounce simple syrup (equal parts boiling water to equal parts sugar dissolved), and 1/2 ounce lemon juice into a shaker and dry shake.  Strain into teacup.  Garnish with an edible flower.fullsizeoutput_1f5c.jpeg

Okay for this little love flick, here are some interesting factoids!!!!

Ryan Gosling was offered the role of the Beast, but he turned it down to star in La La Land.  While Emma Watson was offered the lead role in La La Land, she in turn refused the role to play Belle in Beauty and the Beast.

Filming of Beauty and the Beast actually was finished by August 27, 2015, but was not released until 2017!

The coat of arms in the Beast’s castle is a crest with WD, which represents a fictional character, William Devereaux, but was actually a nod to Walt Disney!

Emma Watson(Belle), Emma Thompson(Mrs. Potts), Luke Evans(Gaston) and Nathan Mack(Chip) all share the same birthday, April 15.  That date also happened to be the first read-through of the script, unbeknownst to the directors that this day was so important!

Producers originally intended this not to be a musical.  But, director, Bill Condon, was incredulous, saying these were some of the best songs in the Disney catalogue and could not imagine the movie without the song, “Be Our Guest.”

Speaking of “Be Our Guest,”  Ewan McGregor, the candlestick, had never heard of the song before making this movie.  Maybe the only person on the planet!

Belle’s ballgown required three thousand feet of thread, over twelve thousand hours to complete, and two-thousand-one-hundred-sixty Swarovski crystals.

So I hope you will indulge with your loved ones a tale as old as time with a drink that is as magical as ever!!fullsizeoutput_1f5b.jpeg

Cheers!

Toodle-oo,

Melanie
