During Lent, the tradition is to refrain from things that are bad for you. A lot of people give up sweets, smoking, or alcohol.
I do that, too, but I also like to do something a little more proactive. I usually do a morning devotional. (I like this website. If I don’t have time to read before leaving for work, I use the audio option and listen in the car on my way to school.)
A couple of years ago, I made these bags for the homeless/needy. I felt I needed to share this with you which also made me make them for my car to use!
You know the people you see at stop lights with the cardboard boxes asking for help. Or, maybe someone comes up to you and asks for help in a store parking lot. Where we go to church downtown, we get a lot of this.
I don’t know about you, but I feel guilty when I have nothing to give them. Or, sometimes I do have cash on hand, but I feel that a particular person seems like they would not spend the money wisely.
I want to give them something but what? That’s when I came up with these bags. I just keep them in my car. When someone approaches me, I hand one out to them. I start with a gallon zip bag.
I add hearty snacks.
Water.
Toiletries I get from the travel-size area of a store.
And an encouraging Bible verse.I place them all into a plastic zip bag. I make up several at a time. (If you are ever in a jam for a snack or water, they are available to you, too.;))
Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and He will reward them for what they have done. -Proverbs 19:17
What do you do during Lent? Anything different you could share?
