Summer Reads

fullsizeoutput_2cf2.jpegI LOVE TO READ!!  I will read just about anything I can get my hands on… non-fiction, self-help, mysteries, dramas, comedies, oh and COOKBOOKS!! I will spend hours diving into a new cookbook.  Not to mention magazines!!! Yes, I love print!!

I thought I would share some reading materials I have lately delved into.  Each offering something different.

fullsizeoutput_2d07.jpegRight now, I am engrossed in this awesome young lady.  She tells the true story of her life growing up in Swat, a country located between Afghanistan and Pakistan and the tragic changes her country and people went through, especially after 911.

She overcomes a lot of adversity and is remarkable in her strength at such a young age.  Plus, I am really coming to understand more clearly how our government and their governments were all involved specifically.  It is very interesting.  (I have to go back from time to time to reread names, because some look/sound so similar.)fullsizeoutput_2d09.jpegShe actually was a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize!fullsizeoutput_2d0d.jpegfullsizeoutput_2d02.jpegfullsizeoutput_2d04.jpegAnother book I can’t put down as of late is Pretty Happy by Kate Hudson.  She uses Ayurvedic practices like I do, along with practical self-help advice to be the woman you want and loving yourself from the inside out.  She also mentions eating an alkaline-based diet, which I had heard about but now understand more clearly.

It is an actual workbook of sorts with four pillars to live by all going along with meditation and yoga, eating whole foods, exercising and self-love.

She has done her research ya’ll and knows what she’s talking about!fullsizeoutput_2cf9.jpegSpeaking of yoga, I bought this book that was actually written in the 60’s and was so popular that is was reprinted.  It is written by an actual Indian yogi that is so flexible that  I had to do some double-takes on some of these poses.fullsizeoutput_2cfc.jpegSee what I mean.  This book explains the practice of yoga, not just the physical but the mental and also explains in details, with pictures as you can see, each pose, the history behind it and how to perform it.  This book also explains breathing practices, which apparently, I was doing all wrong!  This is a great book that you can pick up and read occasionally like I have been doing. And, if you are into yoga, you can try some new poses and work on mastering them.IMG_7017.JPGMy latest cookbook is this.  Rourke gifted me an Instant Pot for Mother’s Day and I needed help getting started.  This book really explains how to use it properly with great helpful hints.  It also has some delicious-looking recipes!fullsizeoutput_2d05.jpegfullsizeoutput_2d06.jpegfullsizeoutput_2d00.jpegOkay, if you haven’t read any of Jojo Moyes’ books, you need to!  I have read every one of her books and have not been able to put them down.  This book is the third in this series. The first was made into a motion picture.  I can’t wait to put my hands on this one!!fullsizeoutput_2d01.jpegfullsizeoutput_2cfe.jpegfullsizeoutput_2cff.jpegThis is the first book of this trilogy.  This is basically a soap opera in book form.  It goes back and forth between Chinese characters all related in one way or another.  I couldn’t put this down.  It is comedic in showing how stinking rich these Asians are and how they live their oh-so over-the-top lives so dramatically.

I can’t wait to see this movie when it releases. And, I am dying to read the next two books in this series.

This would also make a great book club read!

What are you reading this summer?  Any recommendations?  Always excepting new reads!!
