A Stay At The Grand Hotel

Rourke and I recently stayed at the historic Grand Hotel in Pointe Clear, Alabama, to break up our trip to the beach.  We had such a nice time, that we hated to leave for the beach, and vowed that we would definitely stay two nights instead of one next time.

The hotel is full of history and tradition.  It has a strong military background.  It was turned into a confederate hospital during the Civil War.  Three hundred confederate soldiers are actually buried at the on-site cemetery, Confederate Rest.

It also became an Army Air Force maritime academy during WWII.  The staff treated the hotel just as much as an academy by calling floors “decks” and kept time by a ship’s bell.  This endeavor was named “Operation Ivory Soap.”

To this day, a military processional makes its way around the entire grounds and ends with a 4:00  firing of the cannon.IMG_8003.JPGIMG_8035.JPGIMG_8032.JPGI think what we loved most about the resort is that it has something for everybody!!

Located on Mobile Bay, across from Mobile, Sunsets are amazing.  The hotel offers lots of swings, hammocks, daybeds, and beach-style chairs to enjoy the views along the edge of their coast.IMG_8015.JPGIMG_7987.JPGIMG_7983.JPGIMG_7978.JPGIMG_8046.JPGThe pool in itself is amazing.  It is more like a small village.  There is a large family pool with a cascading waterfall.  It has a waterslide and sprinklers for the kiddos, while overlooking Mobile Bay.IMG_8133.JPGIMG_8135IMG_8132.JPGIMG_8136.JPGIMG_7999.JPGThen there’s the adult pool, where you must be 18 or older.  Rourke and I enjoyed the peacefulness of this pool.  Servers frequently stop by to take food and beverage orders.  Towels are dispensed at a kiosk using your hotel key.IMG_8007.JPGIMG_8004.JPGChairs are available for everyone.  Cabanas with couches and daybeds along with flat-screen tvs are available for $300/day extra.

Besides the pool, The Grand has a golf course.IMG_8174.JPGIMG_8173.JPG

A spa.IMG_8149.JPGIMG_8152.JPGIMG_8155IMG_8154.JPGA fitness center.IMG_8157.JPGAn indoor pool.IMG_8158.JPGA full-service marina.IMG_8160.JPGIMG_8161.JPGThey have six restaurants.  IMG_8130.JPGJubilee, the pool-side restaurant, with awesome breakfast buffet for $19.95.  IMG_8055.JPGIMG_8061.JPGBucky’s Lounge has light appetizers and craft cocktails, especially nice while watching the sunset.  They also have nightly entertainment, which we thoroughly enjoyed!!!

They have Lakewood Golf Club Restaurant along with two more new restaurants opening this month.

They also have a coffee/pastry shop right off of the lobby for a quick bite and sundries.IMG_8021.JPGThey have four buildings like the one above with rooms.  I highly recommend asking for the bay-side rooms, that have balconies with rocking chairs to enjoy your morning Keurig coffee.IMG_7973.JPG

Not only do you get to enjoy all of these amenities during your stay, but you get to do it in a beautiful setting.  The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. You are surrounded by gorgeous flowers and largesse live oaks covered in Spanish moss.IMG_8100IMG_8077.JPGIMG_8081.JPGIMG_8087.JPGIMG_8089.JPGIMG_8091.JPGIMG_8098.JPGIMG_8107.JPG

So if you have not yet convinced yourself you need to stay here, here are some other reasons….

They do weddings.  They have a conference center.  They have a free airport shuttle.  And, they have golf carts that will take from one end of the property to another.

For a Grand vacation, you must try The Grand Hotel in Pointe Clear, Alabama.

Toodle-oo,

Melanie
