King Cake Wreath DIY

IMG_2463.JPGI was dragging out my usual Mardi Gras wreaths and realized they were looking a little like something the cat drug in, worn out, and faded.

When buying wreaths for not one, but TWO doors, it suddenly all adds up!

So I went to thinking how I could make a Mardi Gras wreath at a fraction of the cost.

What’s round like a wreath and screams “Mardi Gras“?  Why a king cake of course.  That’s a start.

After a trip to Hobby Lobby, scouring the aisles, here’s what I came up with……IMG_2348.JPGFoam wreath forms, Modge Podge spray, glitter, paintbrushes, paint and polyfil.

IMG_2350.JPGIMG_2354.JPGIMG_2352.JPGAnd, of course a hot glue gun!!!!IMG_2358.JPGFirst, I sprayed a layer of Modge Podge over entire foam wreath.IMG_2387.JPGAfter the Modge Podge dried, I painted the wreath form, pressing the paint into the foam to fill the holes with paint.IMG_2388.JPGEach wreath took exactly one full tube of paint.IMG_2438.JPGAfter the paint was dried, I hot glued poly-fil to the top of the wreath for the “icing.”IMG_2439.JPGIMG_2440.JPGIMG_2441.JPGIMG_2442.JPGIMG_2443.JPGI filled the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock of the wreath with a little more to make it look like it was going over the edge.IMG_2444.JPGI then sprayed Modge Podge spray over entire poly-fil and began sprinkling purple, gold and green glitter.IMG_2445.JPGIMG_2446.JPGIMG_2447.JPGI then sprayed a layer of Modge Podge on top of the glitter to make it stick and not fall off.IMG_2449.JPGI then hot glued some beads to each one.IMG_2452.JPGIMG_2454.JPGTo the back, I hot glued a recycled, metal drink tab for hanging.IMG_2458.JPGLaissez bon temps rouler!
