Cocktail attire!
Definition:
When the dress code on an invitation reads “cocktail attire,” this means for men, a dark suit (charcoal or black) with a tie. For women, it means a short (above knee) dress for women or even a dressy blouse and pants. It means less dressy than formal and much more casual than black-tie.
If you have a party or wedding to attend stating the dress is “cocktail attire,” are you always in a quandary?
If you stick to a few basic rules like I have for you below, you will be well on your way.
Ten Tips for Dressing with Cocktail Attire:
- Accentuate the positive and downplay the negative.
- Remember dark colors slim and hide flaws, where light colors do the opposite.
- If you are petite, wear a shorter dress with nude heels.
- If you are taller, wear a longer dress with darker heels. Or, wear dark, dressy pants.
- If you are long-waisted, wear a belted dress.
- If you are short-waisted, wear an A-line dress or straight dress.
- Always wear heels.
- Add dressy accessories to a LBD and call it a day.
- Wear something you will be comfortable in: not tugging on, pulling up, etc.
- Use undergarments as your friend….there are so many options out there from keeping everything in to making your busts appear larger
Most importantly, SMILE!!!
