I am so excited about this one! And, it is a great one to start the new year/decade out with because it is so healthy!
Whole Food Cooking Every Day is by James Beard Award-Winning Author, Amy Chaplin, who bases her cookbook on whole foods (foods in their natural state) and seasonal foods. Each recipe is vegetarian and free of gluten, dairy and refined sugars.
She and I both are in the same camp. She and I both believe that we will all not only achieve and but maintain optimal health staying away from processed foods and steering our menus toward whole foods. Amy explains this in the beginning of the book along with why using local and seasonal will taste better and actually last longer because of less travel time from growers to your local grocer.
Cooking with whole foods is a lot less convenient, especially for our busy daily lives. But, what I love about this cookbook, is that she starts with a base recipe in each section teaching us special techniques that we can prepare in batches to use or store for later. She then teaches us different variations to adjust the flavors of each base.
The book begins with an “Introduction,” followed by “How to Use This Book,” and “A Few Notes About Special Diets.”
Then the book is divided into 20 sections: “Chia Bircher Bowls,” “Genius Whole-Grain Porridges,” “Gluten-Free Breads,” “Nut and Seed Milks and Drinks,” “Simple Compotes,” “Nut, Seed and Coconut Butters,” “Simple Healing Soups,” “Beans,” “Vegetables: Land and Sea,” “Dressings,” “Sauces,” “Baked Marinated Tempeh,” “Cauliflower Bakes,” “Seeded Crackers,” “Chia Puddings,” “Muffins,” “Easy Cakes,” “Seeded Bars,” “Granola,” and “Waffles.”
Plus, can I add that the book is absolutely gorgeous to look at ??I am chomping at the bit ready to delve into this baby! I’m already making my shopping list! So, be looking for some of these on my social media accounts.
